My Approach

Grief and Loss is an area about which I am very passionate. I have been working with children, youth, and adults in this area for many years. I feel extremely privileged to be part of this journey with my clients, since it is such a vulnerable time in their lives. I believe in working through grief and loss in a way that creates meaning for the survivor(s). Instead of trying to “get over” the loss or “move on,” I strive to work with survivors to continue bonds with those they have lost by integrating them into their future. Together we will work to make sense of the death or loss and adjust to your unique grieving experience. I have been working with individuals experiencing depression and/or anxiety for many years. I employ a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach, which links the individuals’ thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. When a person is experiencing depression or anxiety it can feel like life will never get better, and that there is no way out. CBT techniques have been proven to be effective in these circumstances. Together we can create change and move beyond the cycle of depression and anxiety. I am very passionate about working with clients who have experienced various forms of trauma. I am trained in and utilize a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) approach. Without taking the time to process your experiences, it is easy to get stuck using coping strategies such as avoidance and/or denial. A TF-CBT approach helps clients’ process their stress provoking thoughts and feelings, while helping them to normalize their experience and learn strategies to cope and move forward.
